Palazzo Contarini Polignac: the history

Palazzo Contarini Polignac is a historic 15th-century residence in Venice. The building, also known as Palazzo Contarini Dal Zaffo, is located between the Accademia Bridge and Palazzo Barbarigo. It has a privileged position in the Dorsoduro sestiere, directly overlooking the Grand Canal. Built in the Lombard style, the structure was probably designed by architect Giovanni Buora. The original patron of the palace, however, is unknown.

In the mid-16th century, Palazzo Contarini Polignac was purchased by the Contarini family from Zaffo. The latter began a lengthy restoration of the complex in 1562, which was not finished until 1582. The internal structure changed completely, taking on its current layout. The exterior rooms, however, were left untouched. The building, thus restored, was handed down among the descendants of the noble Count Giorgio Contarini for over two centuries.

In 1758, Palazzo Contarini Polignac was then put up for sale. Purchased first by the Manzoni family, then by the Angarans, it finally passed to the illustrious Polignac family. Thus began a period of great splendour for the building, which hosted Winnaretta Singer, Princess of Polignac, within its walls. The latter transformed the palace into a literary salon, inviting into it the leading cultural figures of the time. Painters, musicians, philosophers... many left a mark of their passage inside the building, including Picasso and Igor' Fëdorovič Stravinsky.

Even today, Palazzo Contarini Polignac continues to be owned by the descendants of Winnaretta Singer. Restored again in the early 2000s, the residence was opened for weddings, private and cultural events.

Palazzo Contarini Polignac: the perfect setting for a fairytale wedding

Palazzo Contarini Polignac, thanks to its enviable position on the Grand Canal, is a unique location. Elegant and evocative, it will be the perfect setting for fairytale weddings. It is, in fact, a palace with attention to the smallest details, offering its guests intimate and unforgettable moments.

Palazzo Contarini Polignac, unlike other buildings in the same area, is embellished with a romantic private garden. This small green corner is made available to couples for the organisation of their reception and offers a breathtaking view of the nearby canal. Among the verdant tree foliage and manicured flower beds, you can serve a glamorous aperitif here on hot summer days, enjoying the magical sunset over the emerald waters of the lagoon. A perfect setting for fairytale-like shots, this bucolic space can also host the most romantic cake cutting.

If you wish to organise a more formal banquet, Palazzo Contarini Polignac also offers its spacious indoor hall. Built in Renaissance style, it will be the perfect choice for an elegant and refined banquet. Surrounded by sumptuous tapestries, you can enjoy refined dishes here, spending a pleasant day in the company of your guests.

Palazzo Contarini Polignac: the structure of the location

Palazzo Contarini Polignac presents a rich and articulated structure, spread over three floors. The building, in Renaissance style, stands out for its clean and elegant lines, contrasting with the Gothic lines of the adjacent palaces. The true pride of the structure is its privileged position on the Grand Canal, on which there is a convenient dock.

On reaching the palace, it is impossible not to be enchanted by its refined façade. It elegantly blends architectural elements of Byzantine origin with a masterful use of polychrome marble. Thanks to its beauty, Palazzo Contarini Polignac was chosen by the great Claude Monet as the subject of one of his paintings.

Next to the main entrance of the complex is a beautiful private garden. Nestled between the buildings here, it is home to several centuries-old trees, flower beds and lush climbing ivy. This space, furnished with comfortable armchairs and white umbrellas, can host outdoor events and celebrations during the summer.

Palazzo Contarini Polignac also offers its guests the use of the first piano nobile for their celebrations. You can, in fact, use the historic inner hall, a space rich in precious elements from the eighteenth century. The latter is characterised by a simple but elegant style, close to that of typical Venetian villas. The ceiling, in fact, features classic solid wood beams, while the floor is made of grit. The walls are interspersed with numerous tapestries, lending solemnity to the ambience.

Palazzo Contarini Polignac is truly a unique location in its simplicity. Refined and never tacky, we are sure it will fill your heart with sweet memories.

In addition to being a wedding photographer, I am a husband (lucky!) and a dad (super lucky!).

I love happy tail wags and purring in the evening twilight, which is why we also have two beautiful furries in our family, Octavia and Nova.
I love the smell of the woods where everything is so wild, where you can reconnect deeply with nature. In the same way, I love the only means that allows you to stay firmly connected to the world around you, the motorbike.

My wife Giulia and I travelled across Europe to the North Cape, where we left a piece of our hearts.
