Palazzo Pisani Moretta: the history
Palazzo Pisani Moretta is a historical residence dating back to the second half of the 15th century. It stands in beautiful Venice, in the San Polo district, directly overlooking the Grand Canal. The structure was built at the behest of the Bembo family, an ancient noble family of the Serenissima.
In 1629, the building was later acquired by the noble Pisani Moretta family, taking its name. The latter passed on ownership of the complex until 1737, when the last male descendant of the family died. Palazzo Pisani Moretta was thus inherited by the Pisani del Banco family, linked to the Morettas through marriage.
The building underwent extensive restoration, bringing about several structural changes. In fact, the magnificent Scalone del Tirali was erected, and the great internal halls were frescoed by the greatest painters of the time. The marriage between Chiara Pisani del Banco and Filippo Barbarigo further enlarged the palace by incorporating the adjoining building belonging to the groom.
The ownership of the complex continued to change over the following decades, but it continued to host great historical personalities. Palazzo Pisani Moretta is still privately owned today, but is rumoured to have been purchased by a Chinese tycoon. Recently renovated, the building hosts the sumptuous Doge's Ball every year during the famous Venetian Carnival.
Palazzo Pisani Moretta is available for events, weddings and film shoots. It was within its walls that several scenes from the film The Tourist, starring Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie, were recorded.
