The location of Masseria Spina is one of the locations that I have most appreciated during my experience as a wedding photographer in Apulia. I have collected all the most important information, to allow you to get to know the history, the structure and answer the most frequently asked questions about the location. Enjoy the reading!

Masseria Spina: the history

The historic Masseria Spina is located in Monopoli, in the beautiful province of Bari. The structure has ancient origins: the first rupestrian settlements in this area date back to the 9th century. At that time, local populations settled here by exploiting the numerous caves and streams present. Even today, some medieval remains are still visible a short distance from the complex.

Over the centuries, the structure has developed enormously, becoming a striking example of a fortified masseria. Its history began in the 16th century, when Francesco de Chiabrera bequeathed the buildings here to his son Vito. However, in 1587, the year of his marriage to Lucrezia Spina, the complex officially took the name Masseria Spina. Subsequently, the structure passed by inheritance to the Ammazzalorsa family, who retained ownership until 1760.

Masseria Spina was later bought by Salerno nobleman Vito Giuseppe Martinelli, an oil and silk producer. Subsequently, the masseria passed to the Meo-Evoli family, who owned it since 1890. Thanks to their contribution, the structure was transformed into a beautiful agriturismo, welcoming numerous tourists. To this day, Nori Meo-Evoli, with the help of her children Marco and Sara, continues to manage Masseria Spina, enhancing its priceless cultural heritage. The facility is now also open for exclusive events and weddings, boasting first-class services.

Masseria Spina: the perfect setting for a rustic wedding

The beautiful Masseria Spina is located in one of the most beautiful and evocative places in the province of Bari. The structure is in fact immersed in unspoilt nature and directly overlooks the rich olive groves of the area. It is a true oasis of peace in which to celebrate convivial events. Therefore, within its walls you can organise weddings with a rustic flavour that wink at the Italian tradition.

Masseria Spina, thanks to its variety of spaces and services, is perfect to fulfil your every wish. The large outdoor courtyards offer endless settings in which to organise your event. From the sea-view terrace to the large farmyard, you can arrange your tables for a banquet in perfect shabby style. Enjoying the splendid panorama of the park of centuries-old olive trees, you can then take unique and folkloric shots. However, there is no shortage of more modern settings, such as the beautiful pool area. You can therefore create a more youthful and glamorous party, without sacrificing the historicity of the place.

The rustic interior rooms will surprise you if you prefer a more classic and traditional setting. They are in fact rooms with an antique flavour, characterised by white lime walls and white stone. They will be perfect for hosting more intimate and elegant banquets even in bad weather. Finally, a short distance away is a romantic consecrated church, where you can celebrate your religious ceremony.

Whatever your style, Masseria Spina will be able to offer the perfect setting to make your every dream come true. It will be impossible for you and your guests not to fall madly in love with this fairytale location.

Masseria Spina: the structure of the location

The historic Masseria Spina is a rustic complex consisting of two larger buildings, called Spina Piccola and Spina Grande. The latter is an elegant villa characterised by splendid red façades and is spread over three levels. Thanks to a splendid double staircase, it is then possible to reach the top, where there is a scenic loggia.

The facility is surrounded by a vast park of centuries-old olive trees, which frames the different areas of the masseria. The farmhouse offers its guests various outdoor and indoor areas. As you approach the buildings, you can admire the traditional farmyard, a paved square of over 500 square metres. It is overlooked by the splendid consecrated church, which can be used to celebrate weddings on site. Added to this space is the side courtyard that can accommodate 160 people, characterised by an elegant colonnade. Behind the masseria is the Arab garden, an area with a swimming pool and embellished with ancient stone vaults.

Masseria Spina then opens its doors to visitors, providing them with several halls and rooms in which to stay overnight. In fact, you can choose from three different halls to celebrate your events, all faithful to the Apulian architectural tradition:

  • The 140-square-metre Sala delle Mangiatoie for up to 120 covers
  • The 200 m2 Sala Colonna for 160 seats
  • The Barn Hall of 180 square metres for 160 seats

In addition to being a wedding photographer, I am a husband (lucky!) and a dad (super lucky!).

I love happy tail wags and purring in the evening twilight, which is why we also have two beautiful furries in our family, Octavia and Nova.
I love the smell of the woods where everything is so wild, where you can reconnect deeply with nature. In the same way, I love the only means that allows you to stay firmly connected to the world around you, the motorbike.

My wife Giulia and I travelled across Europe to the North Cape, where we left a piece of our hearts.
