Villa Rezzonico: the history

Villa Ca' Rezzonico is a historic residence built in the 18th century in Bassano del Grappa, in the province of Vicenza. The elegant complex was designed by Baldassare Longhena and Giorgio Massari, famous Italian architects, for the powerful Rezzonico family. The Villa was initially built as a Sunday house, but was soon transformed into a luxurious residence.

Around 1730 Giambattista Rezzonico commissioned major restoration work on the structure to embellish the Villa. Over the years, the complex was transformed into an elegant mansion, even visited by Pope Clement XIII. Thus began the period of maximum splendour of Villa Rezzonico, which became an important social and cultural centre. Many illustrious guests have stayed here, including Ugo Foscolo, Alessandro Manzoni, Giuseppe Garibaldi, Giovanni Giolitti and Francesco Crispi.

Antonio Canova was also a regular visitor to the villa and made numerous interventions in the interior. It is still possible to admire the stuccoes and statues by the Master and a painting depicting the Triumph of Faith. During the 18th century the Villa was the setting for important historical events. During the Italian campaign it hosted Napoleon Bonaparte, while in 1797 it opened its doors to the Congress of Bassano.

Having survived long periods of neglect, Villa Rezzonico has now returned to its former glory. The current owners have completely restored the structure, opening it up to private and cultural events. Its beauty has not gone unnoticed: there is in fact a 'twin villa' built in Miami by the American architect Paul Chalfin.

Villa Ca' Rezzonico has an imposing structure, in perfect neoclassical style. The main body is majestic, with a structure similar to that of a castle. It has four large lateral towers, with an almost medieval flavour. Next to the mansion are two Barchesse and a small private chapel dedicated to St John the Baptist. In addition to being a wedding photographer, I am a husband (lucky!) and a dad (super lucky!).

I love happy tail wags and purring in the evening twilight, which is why we also have two beautiful furries in our family, Octavia and Nova.
I love the smell of the woods where everything is so wild, where you can reconnect deeply with nature. In the same way, I love the only means that allows you to stay firmly connected to the world around you, the motorbike.

My wife Giulia and I travelled across Europe to the North Cape, where we left a piece of our hearts.
