The structure is situated on the eastern slopes of the Castelrotto hill, in the beautiful Valpolicella. Villa Giona was built in the late 15th century at the behest of the Giona family of the same name, nobles of Jewish origin. These decided, in fact, to build a fortress to guard their land, which was dedicated to wine cultivation.

Between the 16th and 17th centuries, the complex was then completely renovated and redesigned, according to the canons of the Renaissance mansion. Villa Giona was thus transformed into a refined mansion, where the owners spent their vacations and hosted prominent personalities. Work on the expansion and beautification of Villa Giona also continued during the nineteenth century. The vast park embracing the complex was thus designed, this time in the English Romantic style.

In the 1970s, Villa Giona was renovated and further modified by architect Ettore Fagiuoli. Villa Giona is now a splendid hotel structure, owned by a private company. After a thorough conservative restoration, in fact, the complex has become a renowned 4-star hotel.
