Castelbrando: from the Middle Ages to today

The origins of Castelbrando are very ancient. According to some historical documents, the old castle was built starting from 980 AD in Cison di Valmarino. The imposing structure dominates the surrounding valley, overlooking the villages of Valmareno and Cison. In fact, the castle is located in a place inhabited since the Paleo-Venetian period and hosted some Roman settlements. And it was on the ancient Roman castrum that the fortification of Castelbrando began. Within a few decades, under Emperor Otto I, the fortress became the seat of an important Veneto fief

There was a continuous change of ownership of the castle from this moment on, which many lords and noble families contested. In fact, the structure was often the subject of heated disputes, invaded and used as a "bargaining chip" for political agreements. Only under the control of the Serenissima did a period of peace begin for the Castle. In the 16th century it was finally handed over to the Brandolini family and was transformed into a noble palace in the style of the Venetian villas. The Brandolini family maintained the property for over 500 years, only handing it over to the Salesian monks in 1959.

The castle then became a place of retreat and prayer, remaining in ecclesiastical ownership until 1997. In that year it was sold to Massimo Colomban, an Italian entrepreneur, who began a long restoration process. A restaurant, hotel and museum were built, turning the castle into a popular tourist destination. Castelbrando was thus transformed into the precious location that we know today, where we organise our most important events.

Castelbrando: the structure of the location

The magnificent Castelbrando is an imposing structure nestled in the green hills and surrounding woods. Embraced by a dense forest and a beautiful centuries-old park, it is the ideal place for stays, refreshments and events. A special feature of the castle is the presence of an interesting botanical terrace, rich in phytotherapeutic plants. In the greenery surrounding the structure, there are also more or less secluded areas where you can organise your outdoor shooting and reception. These are suggestive views, overlooking the surrounding hills, from which you can enjoy a breathtaking panorama. Adjacent to the main building is a small church dating back to the 13th century. Inside there are 22 frescoes by the 18th-century painter Egidio Dall'Oglio. Today, the Church of San Martino hosts civil unions, concerts and art exhibitions, but it is not possible to hold religious weddings.

Once your celebration is over, you can move inside the Castle, choosing one of the many salons available. The oldest is the Salone degli Stemmi (Hall of Coats of Arms), located in the 16th-century wing of the castle. This is the most unusual room in the castle, with wooden ceilings, enormous chandeliers and tapestries. If you prefer a more chic and luxurious ambience, the Gaia Room will be perfect for you. This is a refined salon with an 18th-century style. Here you will find a riot of stucco, frescoes and white curtains. It will be the perfect setting for your most exclusive and bon ton receptions. Looking for something more youthful and relaxed? Then the Teatro Magno is the place for you. The Teatro Magno is an ultra-technological salon with minimalist lines, perfect for fresh and dynamic couples. It is a glamorous environment where history and modernity blend perfectly, offering moments of music and fun.

Finally, are you looking for solutions for the after-party? Castelbrando offers two lounge bars, Bar Donatello and Cantina di Ottone, where you can continue the evening with an open bar.
