Villa Arvedi: history
Villa Arvedi is a historic residence dating back to the 17th century and located in Cuzzano di Grezzana, not far from Verona. The structure holds a very personal record: it is in fact the largest Venetian villa in the province of Verona. Today's villa was actually built by the architect Giovanni Battista Bianchi by enlarging a palace dating back to the 13th century. According to official documents, the Scala family owned a building in this position at the time.
Jacopo Dal Verme bought this mansionin 1400, only to be confiscated by the Republic of Venice. In 1442, in fact, the future Villa was put up for sale to pay off the debts of his nephew Alvise Dal Verme. On this occasion, the influential Allegri family became the owners of the structure. Thus began a long process of expansion of the Villa, coordinated from 1650 by the architect Giovanni Battista Bianchi. This period also saw the creation of precious frescoes and paintings by Ludovico Dorigny, Paolo Farinati and Sante Prunati.
However over the next two centuries, the Allegri dynasty gradually lost its political and financial prestige. No longer able to bear the running costs, the last surviving member of the Allegri family put the residence up for sale. In 1824, the Villa was purchased by Giovanni Antonio Arvedi, whose descendants still own the structure today. Following careful restoration, Villa Arvedi is now one of the area's most sought-after and popular locations. Set of films and TV series, the structure is open for visits and private events.
Villa Arvedi: the perfect setting for a sumptuous wedding
Villa Arvedi, as you have seen, is an imposing residence. It is a huge agricultural mansion where art, history and nature come together to perfection. Given the presence of such an important artistic and cultural heritage, the Villa is perfect for refined and luxurious weddings. It is not, in fact, a location suitable for disused celebrations, although it can offer even less opulent settings.
The Villa is perfect for luxury photo and video shoots. You can, in fact, realize your shots walking through the romantic olive grove or in the elegant Italian garden. Villa Arvedi, moreover, offers its spaces to celebrate your official civil ceremony in princely style. Finally, on gentle summer evenings, you can celebrate your reception outdoors, enjoying the breathtaking view of the surrounding valley. And, why not, end the day by the hotel's large swimming pool with an amazing fireworks display.
If you prefer to serve your banquet inside the residence, there is a wide range of salons to choose from. For glamorous and luxurious events, we recommend the Salone dei Cesari and the Salone dei Titani. You can set up your tables or buffets under the high vaults and richly frescoed walls and accommodate up to 300 guests. Are you looking for a more intimate but equally well-appointed room? Then head for the Villa's delightful lounges, characterised by a more rustic, 16th-century style. Here, you will find beautiful wooden ceilings and frescoes that are less demanding than those in the main salons.
For a more modern and customisable solution, on the other hand, it is better to choose to organise your event inside the structure's Barchesse. Whatever your preference, Villa Arvedi will always know how to enhance your wedding, making your "I do" day unforgettable.
Villa Arvedi: the structure of the location
The immense Villa Arvedi stands at the foot of a hill, surrounded by centuries-old olive groves. Inside the complex, an ancient oil mill dating back to the early fifteenth century is still active. The Villa has the typical structure of Venetian farmhouses of that period.
Visitors are welcomed by a beautiful quadrangular Italian garden, whose hedges create an elegant Baroque design. From here, you can reach the bodies that make up the complex and a nymphaeum decorated with shells and mosaics. There are also several Barchesse and a pretty 18th-century chapel, dedicated to St Charles Borromeo and richly frescoed by Ludovico Dorigny.
At the centre of the complex stands the main body of Villa Arvedi, a majestic building adorned by a splendid portico. This supports an enchanting terrace from which it is possible to observe the entire surrounding valley. Two wings branch off from this building, each ending in an elegant tower decorated with statues.
Entering Villa Arvedi we can reach two different floors, each with luxurious, finely frescoed salons. In terms of size and decoration, the most important are the Hall of the Caesars and the Hall of the Titans. The Hall of the Caesars, on the ground floor, features impressive 16th-century frescoes, attributed to Paolo Farinati. The Hall of the Titans, on the other hand, is on the first floor and contains paintings of mythological scenes by Ludovico Dorigny.
There are also smaller living rooms with wooden ceilings frescoed by Sante Prunati and Giuseppe Falezza. Part of the original furnishings of the Villa are visible inside the rooms, in a state of perfect conservation. Villa Arvedi is truly a sumptuous location in which to spend moments that will leave an indelible memory in your hearts.
