Villa Il Ferrale: the history

The imposing Villa Il Ferrale is a historic mansion located in Anchiano, in the heart of the Vinci countryside. Although late 19th-century in appearance, the structure was actually built on the foundations of a pre-existing building. As early as the early 14th century, in fact, the presence in the area of a farmhouse and an oil mill belonging to the Adimari family is documented.

Villa Il Ferrale has always been linked to the name of Leonardo da Vinci. According to tradition, the artist was born in a house in Anchiano that was part of the very estate surrounding the Villa. Still preserved inside the mansion is the large stone fireplace from Leonardo's home, as well as some copies of his most famous works.

The period of greatest expansion and embellishment of Villa Il Ferrale, however, was the 19th century. During the 19th century, in fact, numerous historical figures stayed inside the structure, hosted by the then owner, Count Piero Dainelli da Bagnano. These included, for example, Giuseppe Garibaldi, the famous Macchiaioli painter Telemaco Signorini and Gustavo Uzielli.

In the 1940s, Villa Il Ferrale was then purchased by Nilo Bianconi. The latter began a long and thorough restoration of the entire complex, aimed at recovering and modernizing the mansion. The structure is still owned by the Bianconi family, which produces a renowned extra virgin olive oil here. Finally, Villa Il Ferrale has been opened to the public and now hosts cultural, private and wedding events inside.

Villa Il Ferrale: the structure of the location

Villa Il Ferrale is one of the largest and most varied structures in the Tuscan countryside. Expanded and modernized during the 19th century, the complex now includes, in fact, numerous indoor and outdoor spaces. 

Located in an area that dominates the landscape below the historic center of Vinci, Villa Il Ferrale features a splendid secular park of about 8 hectares, rich in trees, hedges and paths. Within it are then distributed the different areas that make up the structure, such as the elegant Italian garden and the manor house.

The former is embellished with numerous terraces open to the countryside, a large swimming pool surrounded by tall palm trees and delicate geometric hedges. This area is perfect for holding summer weddings and can accommodate about 300 people. Also here is the aristocratic chapel dedicated to Saints Anthony and Francis, in which you can celebrate your religious wedding.

Accessing, on the other hand, the main body of Villa Il Ferrante, it is possible to admire all the historical and artistic heritage of the structure. Within the mansion are made available for weddings and events different environments, each with its own peculiarities. Among them, the luxurious inner hall and the wine cellar stand out for their beauty and capacity.

The former is a refined and elegant environment, capable of hosting wedding banquets for up to 200 guests. Featuring a splendid wooden ceiling, the hall directly overlooks the inner courtyard and terraces of the complex. The cellars, on the other hand, are a more rustic and convivial space, in which about 150 people can be seated.
