Azienda Agricola Baronesse Tacco: from the Middle Ages to today

The beautiful Azienda Agricola Baronesse Tacco is an ancient residence dating back to the 14th century. The structure, a former castle, stands among the gentle fields of San Floriano del Collio, in the province of Gorizia. For over 600 years the estate has been handed down from generation to generation within the Tacco family, Friulian nobles. Over the centuries, the Baronesse Tacco farm has been the setting for numerous historical events, which have radically changed it. 

Due to its strategic location on the Slovak border, it was often besieged during battles and wars. During the First World War the building was even bombed, forcing the Tacco family to leave San Floriano. The two owners of the time, Baronesses Roberta and Maria Anna, moved to Gorizia until the end of the war. When peace returned to the village, the two noblewomen began the reconstruction of their home. They commissioned the famous architect Max Fabiani, designing a new wing and extending the original structure. The buildings for the cellar, hayloft and pigsty were built.

In 1941 Roberta Tacco married Captain and Count Giorgio Thun Hohenstein, who came to Gorizia during the Second World War. From their union was born Countess Teresa Thun Hohenstein, current owner of the Baronesse Tacco farm. In 1995, the latter inherited the ancient residence and undertook yet another radical structure restoration. Thanks to the support of Count Michele Formentini, delegate of the Consorzio dei Castelli Storici Friulani (Consortium of Friuli's Historic Castles), the farm has literally been reborn. Today, it is a well-kept location in which to organise refined events both inside the furnished rooms and outdoors on the belvedere.

Azienda Agricola Baronesse Tacco is a historic and magical place, perfect for hosting major events and celebrations. These elegantly surround the manor house, the church and the farm buildings such as the folador, stables and barns.
