The location of Villa Erba is one of the locations that I have most appreciated during my experience as a wedding photographer in Lake Como. Villa Erba: more than a century of history

The prestigious Villa Erba is an aristocratic mansion built in Cernobbio, on the beautiful Lake Como. It was built between 1894 and 1898 at the behest of Luigi Erba, heir to the powerful pharmaceutical industrialist Carlo Erba. The latter commissioned the design of the Villa to the famous architects Angelo Savoldi and Giovan Battista Borsani.

Villa Erba was actually built on the ashes of an earlier women's monastery dating back to the 10th century. Suppressed in 1784, it was later bought by a Napoleonic general, who turned it into a luxurious villa. Later the mansion passed to the noblewoman Vittoria Cima della Scala and finally, in 1882, to the Brivio-Erba family. The latter had a new building constructed overlooking the lake, embellishing it with decorations by Professor Angelo Lorenzoli.

The property was later inherited by Luigi's daughter Carla Erba, who married Duke Giuseppe Visconti di Modrone. From their union, the famous film director Luchino Visconti was born. In 1986, a public consortium finally purchased the area where Villa Erba stands. This built a congress exhibition complex here, according to the design by Mario Bellini. Over the past decades, Villa Erba has been chosen as an exclusive location for shootings, filming and events.

Villa Erba: the structure of the location

Villa Erba, as we have seen, stands on the gentle shores of Lake Como. The structure enjoys an incomparable panorama, dominated by the enchanting nature of this exclusive place. Passing through the majestic entrance gate, visitors reaching the Villa are greeted by an immense park. It is a green lung of over one hundred thousand square metres, rich in centuries-old trees and rare plants.

Following the paths inside, it is then possible to reach the various buildings that make up the complex. These obviously include the elegant manor house, the modern conference centre and the greenhouses. There is also a second green space, the gallop, which houses two helipads. The spaces dedicated to the celebration of weddings, however, are concentrated around the elegant villa. One of the main attractions is certainly the lake-view terrace, where you can celebrate your symbolic rite. On the other hand, it is possible to serve your banquet or aperitif in the surrounding gardens, taking advantage of the comfortable marquees.

Entering Villa Erba's interior, visitors are welcomed into the building's large halls. The complex's centrepiece is the vast atrium, onto which five smaller rooms and their terraces open. Up to 500 people can be accommodated here, who can enjoy the sumptuous furnishings and the rich artistic heritage preserved here. In fact, all the rooms are meticulously decorated, with an endless succession of frescoes, statues and fine stucco work.
