The location of Villa Barbarich is one of the structures that I have most appreciated during my experience as a wedding photographer in Venice. Villa Barbarich: the history

The ancient Villa Barbarich stands in Zelarino, in the province of Venice. Dating back to the 16th century, the structure was built according to the typical layout of the 16th-century Veneto villa. The complex was built to replace an earlier farmhouse destroyed by Spanish troops. The area where Villa Barbarich stands was of enormous strategic importance in the struggle between the Venetian Republic and the major European powers.

Over the centuries, the mansion maintained its close ties with the Serenissima, welcoming the city's noblest families. Ownership of the complex passed to the Malipiero, Foscari, Gritti, Filippi and Pezzana-Tessier families, among others. In 1863, General Eugenio Barbarich, a famous historian of the time, finally purchased the Villa. 

The different families made numerous changes to the complex over the years. In fact, the two barchesse and the structure's large Italian-style garden date back to different times. In addition, the main floor of Villa Barbarich was embellished with a marvellous cycle of frescoes, attributed to the esteemed Ludovico Toeput.

In 2010, Villa Barbarich was included in a restoration project, which restored the structure to its former glory. The complex is now home to a renowned resort and a gourmet restaurant, where events and weddings are hosted.

Villa Barbarich: the structure of the location

The historic Villa Barbarich is a renowned 4-star hotel, in which 16th-century frescoes blend elegantly with Art Nouveau decorations. The structure has the typical layout of Venetian villas, with the addition of two barchesse and an oratory on either side.

Villa Barbarich is then surrounded by a vast secular park, embellished with rare plants and flower beds. The different areas of the complex, such as the Italian-style garden, a modern swimming pool and an evocative patio, are located in it. Approaching the splendid manor house, it is then possible to admire the imposing façade of the complex, embellished with a romantic balcony. From here it is possible to observe the slow flow of the stream inside the Villa, surmounted by an elegant wooden bridge.

The interiors of Villa Barbarich are then the real heart of the mansion. Each of the salons, many of which are interconnecting, is finely decorated. There is no lack of frescoes, Murano glass chandeliers and period furniture, which embellish the rooms, giving them character and refinement.

The Reception Hall is certainly the most suitable for wedding ceremonies. It is, in fact, a unique environment, characterised by frescoed ceilings and walls, directly overlooking the park. From here it is also possible to access the splendid patio, from which to enjoy the breathtaking view of the Veneto countryside. 

Inside the neighbouring barchesse, on the other hand, you will find a more informal ambience. Here the opulent decorations give way to the wooden beams and terracotta floors, typical of rustic Veneto buildings. These rooms, now perfectly restored, house the complex's bar and a beautiful dining room equipped with every comfort.
