Spessa Castle: from the Middle Ages to today
The splendid Spessa Castle stands on the hill of Capriva del Friuli, in the province of Gorizia. The castle's origins are very old: in fact, already in Roman times there was a watchtower in this area. However, the castle itself was built in the 13th century by the Ungrispach family.
Spessa Castle then passed to the Dorinbergo family, who retained ownership until 1532, when it was brought as a dowry to the Rassauer de Ratscha family. With the marriage of Giovannina Rassauer in 1547, the castle finally became part of the possession of the Torre family. Spessa Castle remained in their possession for more than three centuries, hosting prominent figures such as Giacomo Casanova.
Between the 18th and 19th centuries, the Della Torre family began to break up the castle's properties. Rodolfo Voelkl, a wealthy trader of oriental spices, bought it back in 1880. Voelkl also financed a complete property restoration, entrusting the work to the Triestine architect Ruggero Berlam.
In the early 20th century the castle passed first to the Roeckeraths of Leipzig and later to the Bursars of St Serff. However, during the First World War, the underground part of the complex was seized and garrisoned by the Italian army. It then became the seat of Italian military commands, housing such prominent figures as Cadorna and Diaz.
In 1925, the castle was then bought by Anna Sartorio and Salvatore Segrè, whose son started a winery and a thoroughbred breeding farm. However, with the outbreak of World War II, the structure was again occupied, first by the Germans and then by the Americans. Castello Spessa was finally bought by the current owners, the Pali family, in the 1980s.

In addition to being a wedding photographer, I am a husband (lucky!) and a dad (super lucky!).
I love happy tail wags and purring in the evening twilight, which is why we also have two beautiful furries in our family, Octavia and Nova.
I love the smell of the woods where everything is so wild, where you can reconnect deeply with nature. In the same way, I love the only means that allows you to stay firmly connected to the world around you, the motorbike.
My wife Giulia and I travelled across Europe to the North Cape, where we left a piece of our hearts.
