The location of Villa di Striano is one of the structures that I have most appreciated during my experience as a wedding photographer in Tuscany. Villa di Striano: the history
The historic Villa di Striano stands in Borgo San Lorenzo, in the heart of Mugello, in the province of Florence. The mansion supposedly dates back to the 12th century, as reported in an official document from 1257. The Villa belonged to the noble Ubaldi family and initially consisted of two fortified towers.
Over the following centuries, the structure changed hands several times, finally being purchased by Antonio Cocchi in the 17th century. Of Mugello origin, this was a noted physician and naturalist and a member of the famous Accademia della Crusca. Villa di Striano was later sold to the noble Francescani family, which modified the complex by building the present manor house.
In 1875 the mansion changed hands again, being purchased by the Florentine painter Michele Gordigiani. The latter undertook a long and painstaking restoration of the structure, reconstructing parts of it together with architect Luigi Del Moro, known for his work on the facade of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore. A splendid English park, several terraces, a loggia and numerous frescoes were thus created, transforming Villa di Striano into a small palace.
The residence soon became a small literary salon, hosting the leading cultural figures of the time. These included Eleonora Duse and Gabriele D'Annunzio, who used to spend his vacations at the Villa. Many other artists and personalities spent evenings here, participating in events organized by the Gordigiani family.
According to the wishes of Michele's heir, Giulietta Gordigiani, in 1957 Villa di Striano was donated to the Casa di Riposo per Musicisti in Milan. From 1968 the structure finally became the property of private individuals. Renovated and modernized, the mansion now hosts private events and weddings.

Villa di Striano is a mansion where art, history and nature come together to perfection. Located among the verdant hills of Mugello, the structure is one of the most beautiful historic villas in Tuscany. The villa is distinguished by its panoramic position and its boundless English-style park, in which majestic centuries-old trees stand tall.
Walking up the romantic paths through the grove, one then reaches the various outdoor areas of the complex. Standing out among these for their beauty and versatility are the large open squares overlooking the hills and Lake Bilancino. For larger groups, however, Villa di Striano provides its spacious Gordigiani Hall. This exclusive space can accommodate up to 300 guests, who will be able to admire the many 19th-century paintings and memorabilia preserved here between courses.
