The location of Villa Gorgo is one of the structures I have most enjoyed during my experience as a wedding photographer in Udine. I have gathered all the most important information so you can learn more about the history, the structure and answer the most frequently asked questions about the villa. Enjoy your reading!
Villa Gorgo: a centuries-old history
Villa Gorgo is a refined historical residence in San Vito al Torre, a charming village in the province of Udine. Built according to the canons of the ancient Venetian villas, the residence was erected in 1755 on the banks of the Torre river.
The history of these places and the structure is long and fascinating. Given its strategic position, from which it was possible to reach Austria, the Villa was in fact an important crossroads. It is no coincidence that a customs house and a ford of Roman origin were established in this area.
Tradition has it that Leonardo da Vinci stayed here, sent by the Serenissima as a skilled hydraulic engineer. Over the centuries, the Villa hosted important personalities, including Pope Pius VI. The mansion also preserves the memory of the passage of the Emperor of Austria, Archduke Joseph II, who stayed here in 1784.
During the First World War, Villa Gorgo became an important hospital. The villa has been completely renovated in recent times, with major works completed in 2012. Today the complex hosts exclusive events and weddings, enchanting its visitors.
Villa Gorgo: the perfect setting for a refined wedding
Villa Gorgo is one of the most suggestive and fairy-tale places. Located in the historic village of San Vito al Torre, the structure offers its guests views of rare beauty. It will therefore be the perfect setting for princely and fairytale weddings.
It is indeed an enviable location to celebrate your wedding in the most elegant ways. Surrounded by the gentle Friulian countryside, the Villa offers enchanting views. Strolling through the centuries-old trees of its splendid park, you can take bucolic and fairy-tale photographs.
The Villa is full of charming and romantic corners where you can make your every wish come true. If you prefer more carefree and convivial weddings, you will love to organise your banquet in this lovely green area! The main courtyard will be perfect for hosting both your tables and pavilions to serve a delicious aperitif.
However, you can also make use of the charming interior. Are you looking for a simple environment, with a rustic but refined flavour? We can only recommend the elegant Barchesse, with its elegant view of the garden of honour. Do you prefer a more characteristic place? Then head for the ancient Grande Scuderia, whose façade is decorated with a beautiful eighteenth-century fresco.
Villa Gorgo is truly an evocative place, capable of making its guests experience moments of pure magic. Whatever your wedding style or vision, it will be the perfect location for your most beautiful day.
Villa Gorgo: the structure of the location
As we have seen, Villa Gorgo is a luxurious residence set amidst the fields of the gentle Friulian countryside. A short distance from the banks of the Torre river, the property is located in a beautiful medieval village. Here, the landscape is dominated by ancient buildings with stone and brick walls. Next to the Villa there is a beautiful little church dedicated to Saint Andrew, with a high bell tower.
Upon entering the well-kept main courtyard of Villa Gorgo, visitors are immediately greeted by rich vegetation. The house is surrounded by centuries-old poplars and cypresses, providing cool shade on hot summer days.
Next to the gate is the harmonious façade of the Grande Scuderia. Richly frescoed, it has no equal in architectural and pictorial importance in other local villas. Proceeding inside the courtyard, we then find the main building, from which two specular wings depart. Each houses a refined Barchessa. These are rustic rooms, characterised by terracotta floors and wooden ceilings. The buildings have a very useful kitchen, where the caterer can prepare the courses of your banquet.
Reaching the main building, there is a magnificent marble staircase, from which elegant magnolias sprout. The steps lead up to the stunning Salone delle feste, built in perfect 18th-century style.
There is also a beautiful guesthouse, a lovely flat that can accommodate up to three people. There is also a small suite where the bride can calmly prepare for her wedding.
With its history and beauty, Villa Gorgo is able to enchant all its guests. If you are looking for a refined, fairytale-like and extremely well-kept location, it is definitely the right choice for you. You can live a daydream in this magical place, making your most beautiful day even more special.
